Old Shaw Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm in South Peacham, Vermont. We provide fresh, good tasting, organic produce, at an honest value, for the local community. Our agricultural methods contribute to a safe environment, a sustainable food system, and a diverse regional economy.

We currently market our organic vegetables and culinary herbs through our CSA, at local farmer's markets, at a farmstand on our property, and to several wholesale accounts. We have about 5 acres in active production, with 2 greenhouses and 2 1/2 hoophouses, and with room on our property to expand significantly.

My name is Peter Griffin, and my co-conspirator and partner in this project is Maryellen Griffin. Our daughter, Waverly, was born September 14, 2003, and the newest member of the farm crew is Henry Seamus Griffin, born November 23, 2005.

About seven years ago, Maryellen and I took our Ivy League educations, and our partially assembled job skills, and we set off to pursue our life-long dreams of being organic vegetable farmers. After searching for good vegetable land and a good home, we bought an old farmhouse in Peacham, Vermont with a lot of land, a lot of house, and a huge old dairy barn -- all of which need some attention and a lot of life. For about 125 years, our house was owned and farmed by the Shaw family of Peacham. Since most people know our house as the Shaw place, we decided to stick with the name.

This blog started as a farm journal to chronicle our efforts to grow things and then sell them, and we have had a lot of fun keeping it going. The best way to get a feel for the place is to start here. You can reach us at peter at oldshawfarm.com or maryellen at oldshawfarm.com. Thanks for visiting!
