More treasures
I was up in the high drive of the barn today looking for some wood for a project. Lying on a beam between two other pieces of wood was a magazine. From the wear and tear on it I assumed it was from the 1960s or 1970s. But it turns out it is a Collier's Weekly from August 20, 1938. Except for being folded up a bit and a water stain or two, it really looked almost like new. At the very least, it probably hasn't been touched in 60 years or so.
I like the ad for the a Chrysler for $975.
I love to read old magazines. (I remember spending more time than I should have reading old Saturday Evening Post's in Sterling library!)
I also remember coming across a 1930-40s Life magazine last summer in Italy. Those ads had a car for about the same price as the Chrysler in your Collier's which, of course, showed the inflation since then.
But, even more fascinating, it had an ad for AT&T promoting "long distance calling". I don't remember the numbers exactly, but it was something like a three minute call to Los Angeles from New York was "only $8.25".
Now if Detroit could only apply technology like the phone people have...
