Sell, sell!
Today is market day again (on the green in Danville 9a.m. to 1p.m.) This week we are adding baby beets and broccoli raab to the mix. Plus some new varieties of head lettuce are in. All that on top of the salad turnips, scallions, seedlings, and cut flowers. Should be better weather this week.
Posted by peter at June 18, 2003 07:53 AMOn the organic front down here in RI, we got our first shipment of CSA vegetables yesterday. It was a little sparse, being the first of the harvest, and such a cool spring and all, but we got young lettuce, mesclun mix, baby bok choi, mustard greens, leeks, chives, and a few tomatoes. Plus some bonus pesto since the farmer felt like this week's share was pretty thin. Fun Fun Fun!
Our farmer does the weekly farmer's market here in Providence, too. Maybe we'll go see what's shaking there on Saturday and report in.

Posted by: maryel at June 18, 2003 11:47 AMWhat varieties of head lettuce are you harvesting?
Posted by: maryetta at June 18, 2003 10:32 PMHi Maryetta,
We are harvesting Tom Thumb, which is a small buttercrunch/bibb type and we are just starting to harvet Black Seeded Simpson, which is a green leaf type and seems to grow like crazy in the early spring. Hopefully, within a week we will also have Merlot, which is a red leaf lettuce.
Posted by: peter at June 19, 2003 09:48 AMThey must be hot house tomatoes, though I didn't ask. He also had small yellow tomatoes, which I suppose could have been farmed outside because they were smaller.
The pesto is pre-made. He also had salsa, which was premade, presumably last year? Or we could have gotten half a dozen eggs. The salsa, pesto and eggs are for sale throughout the season, but not included in our share normally. He must also sell them at the farmer's market.
