Rain

I woke up at 3 a.m. this morning and heard that glorious sound. Rain, rain, rain. I was so excited that I slept in until 5:15 a.m. And it is still coming down. This was so absolutely necessary. We aren't totally out of the woods yet -- this rain will basically get us back to normal plus a little bit. But right now, I am very happy.

The wet spring down here made my bushes and trees on the terrace a low priority. But the heat and dryness over the last couple of weeks got me worrying about them. Being in boxes, they dry out faster than things planted in the ground.

So I have been groping around, trying to get the hose to work. The building people took a couple of shots at it and told me it was working. Then I discovered I didn't have an on/off valve. The first one was the wrong size. The next one fit okay. But the water still didn't come out.

Finally, I went back to the building maintenance man, gave him a tip, and surprise! surprise! it was working when I got home!

Welcome to NYC!!
