Ahh the off season

We have been enjoying the off season. Tremendously. Every time I say to Peter I should really get up and finish the farm books or something productive, he says, but its December!! Play with the kiddos. Relax. Sleep. Goof off. And we have been.

We celebrated Henry's birthday

And some early season sledding.

We've been trying out new recipes including this one for a potato pizza, which was excellent.

There's a very tiny bit of unpostponable farmwork that needs to be done this time of year, mainly getting the snow off the roofs of the greenhouses. They mostly shed on their own, but sometimes Henry and I snowshoe up to the far ones with a big push broom and Henry climbs on the tractor equipment that's stored in there and I get a little upper body workout.

And this was taken before the big snowstorm! Though with the warm weather the past few days, things have melted back again.

There's some lettuce and other greens still alive under cover up there. At least it was still alive as of December 15. For now its just an experiment in season extension for us, and some good greens for our family, but we hope to extend the CSA to Christmas in 2008 or 2009, so its good practice too.
