In past years CSAer’s have asked if we could provide local organic meat for their table, in addition to our yummy veggies. This year we are we are joining forces with farmers Vince Foy and Deb Yonker in North Danville. Their line of beef is called Badger Brook Meats, and it is all certified organic, pasture based, Black Angus beef, and all raised on their farm. And it is yummy! We eat their meat ourselves!
The beef share is on a very different schedule from the veggie share!
Here are the details: You pick up 10 pounds of frozen beef, once a month, at our farm in Peacham, for six months (June through November). The meat will be approximately 1/3 steak cuts, 1/3 burger, and 1/3 roast cuts. The meat will keep a long time in the freezer since it is professionally butchered and cryogenically sealed and frozen.
You pay $324, or $54/month, or approximately $5.40/lbs. It all works out to be at least a 10% discount off of Vince and Deb’s retail prices. Pick up dates at the farm will be June 20, July 18, August 22, September 18, October 17, and November 21.
Since this is a trial run for us, we only have 15 spots in the beef share! Once those are filled we will be closing the beef share for 2008.
